About this trip

We are thrilled to invite you and your FAMILY to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico!  7 Days of activities & scrumptious meals curated specifically for FAMILIES ~ Join us to contextualize language learning in a rich cultural setting, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2008! Serving up a series of excellent adventures, unique perspectives, and one scrumptious meal each day that will leave you with *just* enough space to explore on your own as well. Cue the mariachi's.

The undercurrent of our itinerary will circle around water as a natural resource since ancient times, its historic importance, and the pertinent role it plays today. Enjoying the fruits of thermal waters and tracking the source of natural aquifers, we'll see how water has been manipulated by humanity for centuries in the region. In partnership with Caminos de Agua to counteract overuse and drought, we'll engage best strategies to aid local families needing access to clean water.

In just one trip, your life lens will shift while your heart swells in the beauty of a town known for its architecture, art, gastronomic delights, and romantic views. Relax and enjoy an unforgettable week with your family!

Upon arrival, you will be greeted at the airport with a private shuttle and driven directly to your local accommodations.

On Monday morning, we will meet Amy (your tour director) in the Jardín in front of the Parroquia for an adult walking tour of the city. Amy will walk the children to Parque Juarez with a host of local caretakers who will supervise and manage student play and activities.

Afterwards, everyone will convene for a delicious comida (late lunch) in the traditional Mexican style.

Day 3

Traveling to the outskirts of San Miguel, we will mount horses for a guided horseback through the campo's gorgeous hills and canyons. After a few hours, we will return to the Ranch to help la familia prepare a rustic lunch to enjoy together.

This excursion will take approximately 5 hours, 9 am - 1 pm. Transportation is included, and gratuity is customary to your caballero. This excursion can only accommodate 20 people per day,  so we will split our group into two if necessary and juggle Days 3 and 5.

Thermal Hot Springs

Day 4

A day unlike any other! San Miguel's natural underground water systems are known to extend across the hot volcanic crystals deep below the Earth's surface thereby heating the water to an unusually warm and delightful temperature. Occurring as natural hot springs across the township, humanity has manipulated this natural resource over the years into the form of unique pools and tunnels for public recreation and enjoyment.

For this excursion, we will coach you through securing your own local taxi (in Spanish, so that you can do it whenever you wish at a later time). Lunch will be hosted in situ, so all you need do is bring a towel, swimsuit, and sunscreen.

The thermal waters are the cure all for aching elements and wondrous to the spirit for every age.

Zip Line & Canyon Hike

Day 5

Ecotourism and adventure at it's best, sorry but zip lining is only available to those over five years old with a giant heap of adrenaline! Enjoy zip lining across the ridges or walking on the canyon floor with an expert scientist who can point out the unique flora indigenous to the area.

After the rush, we will enjoy one of San Miguel's oldest and most ubiquitous restaurants where miracles really do happen :)

Cañada de la Virgen

Day 6

UNAM archaeologist tour of Cañada de la Virgen ancient ruins! This is a remarkable opportunity followed by a private and luxurious asada (BBQ) in nature at the exclusive Los Encinos del Rancho.

Farewell Fiesta

Day 7

On our last day, we offer walking tours of the famous Mercado filled with fruits, vegetables, flowers, and hand-made traditional arts. This is an excellent place to practice Spanish skills and select unique souvenirs to bring home. Alternatively, you may want to use this time to visit La Fabrica la Aurora, the culture design and art center. Also keep in mind the exquisite boutiques in town filled with local and upscale treasures (we are happy to give personal recs depending on what you're looking for!). This is a town filled with artists and makers, so make yourself at home!

That evening, we'll indulge at our Farewell Fiesta, located at a private residence five minutes from town affectionately named El Ranchito. We hope this will be the perfect cap to a perfect week! Come join us!
